Most Valuable Disney Collectibles in the World
We're pretty sure no other business on Earth has released as many toys, figures and various memorabilia as Disney. The multibillion-dollar company has been creating all kinds of stuff for kids and adults for decades, from books to statues. And it all started with a mouse.
Some of the "Disneyana" — a catchall term for Disney toys, animation cels, collectibles and all Disney-related things — can be incredibly expensive. We tracked down the most expensive Disney memorabilia on and off the market.
These are the most valuable Disney collectibles in the world.
30. Disneyland Club 33 Haunted Mansion Gargoyle Mug
Type of collectible: Drinkware
Year: 2021
Price: $1,625
Note: The rare Disney collectible items in our rankings include modern toys and the first Mickey Mouse souvenirs. The only thing we didn't include were movie props. And no Star Wars stuff, either.
Bottom Line: Disneyland Club 33 Haunted Mansion Gargoyle Mug
Club 33 is an ultra-exclusive Disneyland membership. It's ridiculously expensive, too, with membership fees costing at least $33,000 to join plus a $15,000 annual fee.
Membership also comes with 50 single-day admissions and five day-long, private VIP tours. On top of that, it's unknown how long the waiting list just might be.
Members also get some exclusive Disney collectors' items, like this Haunted Mansion Gargoyle Mug. Each member was given one in 2021, and it's already worth at least $1,600.
29. Walt Disney Classics Collection Braided Beauty Rapunzel
Type of collectible: Statue
Year: 2012
Price: $2,500
Bottom Line: Walt Disney Classics Collection Braided Beauty Rapunzel
In 2012 with Disney's "Tangled," Rapunzel became the newest Disney princess. Disney celebrated this new addition by creating a limited edition Rapunzel statue titled Braided Beauty for the Walt Disney Classics Collection.
Only 750 of these statues were made. They were sculpted by Jacqueline Perreault Gonzales and feature pewter legs.
Originally going for around $165, these statues can now fetch around $2,500.
28. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Porcelain Sculpture
Type of collectible: Sculpture
Year: 1980s
Price: $2,629
Bottom Line: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Porcelain Sculpture
This richly detailed porcelain statue was made in Italy, with production started in 1983. Originally, 2,500 pieces were supposed to be made, but the original production mold was destroyed in 1992, and only 1,000 pieces ever hit the market.
Crafted by master sculptor Enzo Arzenton, this piece brings Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to life.
27. Old Hag Bronze Statue
Type of collectible: Statue
Year: 1995
Price: $2,640
Bottom Line: Old Hag Bronze Statue
The Old Hag from "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is an iconic movie villain, and she has been reproduced in amazing detail with this limited edition bronze sculpture.
Crafted by David W. Smith, only 100 of these were made, and they were sold at the Disneyana Shop in Disneyland. Even crazier about the price: The red apple didn't even come with the $2,640 price tag, and it was the most expensive Old Hag statue we could find.
If the statue had that bright red apple, we wouldn't be surprised if it broke the $3,000 price mark.
26. The Nightmare Before Christmas Oogie Boogie Charger Bowl
Type of collectible: Dishware
Year: 1996/1997
Price: $2,880
Bottom Line: The Nightmare Before Christmas Oogie Boogie Charger Bowl
Tim Burton's "A Nightmare Before Christmas" became one of the biggest cult movies ever made, and it spawned innumerable merchandise.
One of the more expensive "Nightmare" collectibles is this setting or "charger" plate, which was made and signed by artist Brenda White. These plates were only sold at Disney Theme Parks and easily sold out, due to both their coolness and the fact that not many were made.
The Oogie Boogie design is the most expensive.
25. 1931 First Newspaper Walt Disney Mickey Mouse Premium Card
Type of collectible: Trading card
Year: 1931
Price: $3,120
Bottom Line: 1931 First Newspaper Walt Disney Mickey Mouse Premium Card
Mickey Mouse debuted in the famous "Steamboat Willie" cartoon in 1928. In 1931, a cartoon strip with Mickey Mouse getting his picture taken advertised that readers could send away for a copy of Mickey's picture. If they did so, they would receive this card in the mail.
The card was signed, "Lots of good wishes" by Mickey Mouse, and even Butch signed it with a "me too." It's basically Mickey Mouse's rookie card, as it predates the card set by several years.
It was a brilliant piece of advertising that would make children fans of Mickey Mouse for many years to come.
24. Belle and the Beast 17" Platinum Doll Set
Type of collectible: Doll
Year: 2016
Price: $3,300
Bottom Line: Belle and the Beast 17" Platinum Doll Set
"Beauty and the Beast" made a comeback in 2017 with Disney's live-action remake, and it appears that the dolls it sold in 2016 were extremely popular.
Only 500 sets were ever made, and they are highly detailed. That's why these Disney Store exclusive collectors dolls are highly sought-after and highly valuable.
23. Mickey Mouse Unopened Wax Pack
Type of collectible: Trading card
Year: 1935
Price: $3,383
Bottom Line: Mickey Mouse Unopened Wax Pack
In 1935, Gum Inc. and Disney unveiled a game-changing collectible: Mickey Mouse trading cards. They were the first cartoon trading cards and paved the way for all kinds of comic book trading cards that would flood toy stars and supermarkets for years to come.
These cards can be expensive by themselves, but finding an unopened back from over 90 years ago? Yeah, that'll cost ya.
At least you'll get some molar-cracking gum with your purchase.
22. Cheshire Cat Snow Globe
Type of collectible: Snow globe
Year: N/A
Price: $4,050
Bottom Line: Cheshire Cat Snow Globe
This impressive "Alice in Wonderland" snow globe features a Cheshire Cat holding Alice, the Queen of Hearts and the White Rabbit in three small globes. Flick the switch under the base and the cat's eyes and smile light up, and the "Alice in Wonderland" theme song plays. It's a trippy piece for a trippy movie. Only 100 were made.
The one that sold on eBay for $4,050 in 2021 didn't even come with the box. We're not sure exactly what year this was made, but the base features a "disneyauctions.com" feature, which is a defunct website.
We're guessing it was made somewhere in the mid-2000s to early 2010s.
21. Jafar and Iago Maquette
Type of collectible: Sculpture
Year: 1992
Price: $4,080
Bottom Line: Jafar and Iago Maquette
Jafar might be a wretched villain, but he sure is a handsome fellow, especially in 14-inch-tall sculpture form.
This studio maquette of Jafar and his parrot, Iago, was crafted for "The Art of Aladdin" auction which occurred in 1993. Iago is detachable, and both figures were hand-painted in Disney's studio in Burbank, California.
Only 21 of them were ever made.
20. Mickey Mouse Waddle Book
Type of collectible: Book
Year: 1934
Price: $5,000
Bottom Line: Mickey Mouse Waddle Book
This vintage Mickey Mouse book is a storybook with punch-out, assemble-yourself cardboard characters that could "waddle" down a punch-out ramp.
This book is rare, but if you just had to have it regardless of quality, you can find copies of it from $40-$50 from secondhand sellers on Amazon. But those don't have the waddle figures. And what's a waddle book without the waddle figures?
Expect to pay $5,000 for a good-looking edition with the figures still in their unpunched status.
19. Donald Duck 'Self Control' Bronze Statue
Type of collectible: Statue
Year: 1996
Price: $6,250
Bottom Line: Donald Duck 'Self Control' Bronze Statue
Designed by Carl Barks and sculpted by Bruce Lau, this nine-inch-tall bronze statue of Donald Duck is fashioned after the character's classic short, "Self Control" from 1939. That seven-minute cartoon showcased Donald's ridiculous temper, and here he is screaming and yelling at whoever dares to put him on a shelf or pick him up.
There were only 150 of these pieces ever made, and they sold out immediately when they were unveiled at the 1996 Disneyana Convention. Originally, these sold for $1,800. On eBay, we found one that sold for $6,250 in 2021.
They're very rare. The last one that sold on Heritage Auction went for $1,700, but that was in 2004.
18. Scrooge McDuck 'Sport of Tycoons' Statue Artist's Proof
Type of collectible: Statue
Year: 1994
Price: $9,600
Bottom Line: Scrooge McDuck 'Sport of Tycoons' Statue Artist's Proof
Scrooge McDuck loves his money, and here he is diving into a pool of his gold coins. Crafted by Paul Vought and Carl Barks, this bronze statue was introduced at a Disneyana Convention in the early 1990s.
Only 100 were made, and the most expensive of them is an artist's proof, which was signed by Carl Banks. It sits on a marble base and measures 10 inches long.
Those that aren't artist's proofs sell for around $2,000 and up.
17. Lionel Pre-War Mickey Mouse Circus Train Set
Type of collectible: Train set
Year: 1935
Price: $9,859
Bottom Line: Lionel Pre-War Mickey Mouse Circus Train Set
This Lionel train set is both one of the most expensive train sets in the world and one of the rarest Disney collectibles. Made in 1935, the train set features a stoker car, two circus cars, a band car, several sections of track, a paper circus tent, a Mickey Mouse carnival barker figurine and cardboard cutouts. It's just classically cool.
This thing is exceedingly rare, and it's practically impossible to find a set that's complete and still in the box.
One finally went up for auction in 2014, and it sold for nearly $10,000. It was only missing a couple of tickets and a windup piece, and chances to find another one like that are slim.
16. Uncle Scrooge 'McDuck of Duckburg' Limited Edition Bronze Statue
Type of collectible: Sculpture
Year: 1997
Price: $16,800
Bottom Line: Uncle Scrooge 'McDuck of Duckburg' Limited Edition Bronze Statue
Unveiled at the 1997 Disneyana Convention in Orlando, Florida, these bronze statues sold out immediately.
Designed by Donald Duck creator Carl Barks, this heavy-duty statue was fashioned after the 1950s version of Scrooge McDuck. It stands 18 inches tall and features gold coins on its base, with the faces depicting the City of Duckburg.
Only 50 of them were ever made, so you'll need to take a dive into the Money Bin to retrieve the necessary coin.
15. How To Play Baseball Poster
Type of collectible: Poster
Year: 1942
Price: $17,250
Bottom Line: How To Play Baseball Poster
Walt Disney made some classic "How to..." shorts in the 1940s, and Goofy's "How to Play Baseball" is one of the most beloved.
RKO produced Disney feature movies and shorts from 1935 until 1953. This particular cartoon, and the accompanying poster, were rushed out in 12 weeks so it could accompany the Samuel Goldwyn film "The Pride of the Yankees" in theaters.
These posters are extremely rare, and buying one in good condition will have you Googling "how to make money fast."
14. Two Drunken Pirates Maquette
Type of collectible: Statue
Year: 1960s
Price: $20,315
Bottom Line: Two Drunken Pirates Maquette
Decades before Jack Sparrow graced our screens and Disney made billions on the movie franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean was a Disneyland ride that opened in 1967.
During the ride's conception phase, miniature models were created, allowing the designers to mix and match where the full-sized statues would be placed. Walt Disney reviewed these sculptures, presumably approving, tweaking or disapproving of them. When they were approved, Disney would set them up at eye level and imagine himself moving through the ride.
These scale models are made of oil-based clay, were hand-painted, and there were no molds made of them.
Pirates of the Caribbean was the last ride that Disney had a hand in designing, as he died just a few months before the attraction opened.
13. Four Color No. 386
Type of collectible: Comic book
Year: 1952
Price: $23,900
Bottom Line: Four Color No. 386
"Four Color" comics was a long-running comic book series from the now-defunct Dell Comics (and they were called "Four Color" because comics were printed in four basic colors at the time). Most of these "Four Color" comics were one-shot issues based on an already established character.
"Four Color" 386 is expensive because it features the first cover appearance and solo story of Uncle Scrooge, which is titled "Only a Poor Old Man." This is also the first issue that serves as the first issue of the "Uncle Scrooge" comics.
The one that sold for nearly $24,000 was graded a near-mint, 9.4, and substantially boosted the price.
12. Walt Disney's Passport
Type of collectible: Government ID
Year: 1965
Price: $28,680
Bottom Line: Walt Disney's Passport
This is such an odd Disney collectible that we almost omitted it from this list, but it's just too good to not share.
This is Walt Disney's passport, which was issued in 1965 — one year before he died. We're not sure if there's another Disney passport anywhere else, and it went for $28,680 in 2007, 106 years after he was born.
11. Four Color No. 9
Type of collectible: Comic book
Year: 1942
Price: $38,400
Bottom Line: Four Color No. 9
Four Color No. 9 features the first artwork of Donald Duck as drawn by Carl Barks.
Barks was a legendary Disney cartoonist, who created the versions of Donald that we all knock and love. Fans coined him "Duckman" and "The Good Duck Artist." He created Duckburg and Scrooge McDuck as well.
The finest copy of Four Color No. 9 ever sold reached a whopping $38,400 at auction.
10. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Evil Queen Production Cel with Mirror Key Master Background
Type of collectible: Production cel
Year: 1937
Price: $59,750
Bottom Line: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Evil Queen Production Cel with Mirror Key Master Background
"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" is still a beautiful film, and the production cels from that landmark 1937 film are still enchanting.
One of the most expensive Disney collectibles ever sold at auction is this Evil Queen production cel with the master key background of the Queen's mirror.
9. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs RKO Poster
Type of collectible: Movie poster
Year: 1937
Price: $65,725
Bottom Line: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs RKO Poster
"Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" was Disney's first full-length animated feature film, and it was vital that this movie be a success. During production, costs skyrocketed from a predicted $250,000 to an astronomical $1.488 million, causing Walt Disney to mortgage his house to scrape up the money to get the film made.
Luckily, the film was a massive success. If it wasn't, we might not have the Disney we know today.
An original RKO movie poster of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" can now go for almost $66,000 at auction, or roughly one-fourth of the movie's original predicted budget.
8. It's A Small World Castle Concept Art
Type of collectible: Concept art
Year: 1964
Price: $66,000
Bottom Line: It's A Small World Castle Concept Art
"It's a Small World" is one of the most iconic Disneyland rides and one of the most popular theme park attractions in the world.
"It's a Small World" first opened in 1964 at the New York World's Fair after roughly 11 months of development. American artist Mary Blair was charged with designing the attraction, and she created this 14-inch-by-17-inch concept art for the castle's façade.
It's quite similar to how it looks today, even as the ride has been refurbished and added to throughout the years.
7. Mickey Mouse Daily No. 15
Type of collectible: Original comic strip art
Year: 1930
Price: $74,750
Bottom Line: Mickey Mouse Daily No. 15
Mickey Mouse was created by Walt Disney but was illustrated by Ub Iwerks before he left the company to found his own animation studio. This comic strip was penciled by Iwerks and inked by Win Smith, with Disney providing direction.
First appearing in the funny pages of newspapers in 1930, this daily's original art is a unique piece that sold for $74,750 in 2006.
It's one of the earliest, original Mickey drawings to be sold at auction.
6. Mickey's Service Station and Goofy Production Cel with Master Background
Type of collectible: Production cel
Year: 1935
Price: $98,588
Bottom Line: Mickey's Service Station and Goofy Production Cel with Master Background
"Mickey's Service Station" is an eight-minute short from 1935 featuring Goofy, Donald Duck and Mickey mouse trying to fix Pete's squeaking roadster. The whole cartoon is excellent and available on YouTube, but if you want to own a piece of production magic, that'll cost ya.
This production cel is a hand-drawn piece of Goofy carrying Pete's car with Mickey haplessly hanging above. According to Heritage Auctions, it's believed to be the only privately held black and white production cel featuring Goofy, making it even rarer.
5. Four Color No. 16
Type of collectible: Comic book
Year: 1941
Price: $78,000
Bottom Line: Four Color No. 16
Wondering why this comic book is so expensive? It's the very first appearance of Mickey Mouse in the world of comic books.
While Four Color No. 16 can sell for as low as $500 for poorly graded versions, a near-mint, 9.2 copy, the most pristine copy known to exist, went for an astounding $78,000 in 2020.
4. 'Trail of the Unicorn Limousine
Type of collectible: Sculpture
Year: 1996
Price: $81,000
Bottom Line: 'Trail of the Unicorn Limousine
Connoisseur of Malvern, an English porcelain studio, created this absolutely massive Scrooge McDuck stretch limo. This thing measures 60 inches by 14 inches, long enough to span a console table (although it comes mounted to one), and is made entirely of delicate, expertly crafted porcelain.
Five of these are said to have ever gone to retail, although fewer may actually exist. This was designed by Carl Barks, and the one that sold for $81,000 was owned by the Duckman — his name appears on the license plate.
3. Mickey Mouse Stock Movie Poster
Type of collectible: Movie poster
Year: 1928
Price: $101,575
Bottom Line: Mickey Mouse Stock Movie Poster
This stock movie poster dates back to 1928 with the release of "Steamboat Willie." It was one of the few cartoon posters created by Celebrity Productions, which distributed all the Mickey Mouse shorts from November 1928 through December 1929, after which Columbia became Disney's distributor.
According to Heritage Auctions, Celebrity Products was a low-budget distributor, and, since it was the Great Depression era, it's likely that this is the only Mickey Mouse poster in existence until 1930.
Only one of these is known to exist, and it sold for $101,575 in 2012.
2. Walt Disney's Comics and Stories No. 1
Type of collectible: Comic book
Year: 1940
Price: $116,513
Bottom Line: Walt Disney's Comics and Stories No. 1
Disney characters appeared in previous comic books before 1940, but this is the first, regularly published Disney comic book ever made. With a wink, Donald Duck peels away the front cover, as if he knows just how popular Disney and its colorful animal creations would become.
The first issues of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories easily sell for $10,000 to $20,000, while the ones that are the best-graded can sell for absurdly high. The one that went for $116,500 was graded a 9.4 and sold in 2008.
According to Heritage Auction, it's the only copy of any issue from Nos. 1-15 that is graded above a 9.0.
1. Mickey Mouse Mad Doctor Poster
Type of collectible: Poster
Year: 1933
Price: $107,550-$138,000
Bottom Line: Mickey Mouse Mad Doctor Poster
This is the granddaddy of all Mickey Mouse posters and the most expensive Disney collectible that isn't a movie prop or a 100-pound Mickey statue made out of solid gold. It's a pristine, 27-inch-by-41-inch poster for Disney's "The Mad Doctor" cartoon from 1933, and it's just awesome.
This piece of art features Mickey strapped to what looks like an electric chair while a maniacal doctor sharpens a knife with glee.
Just look at this thing. It's incredible. Both Disney fans and horror fans alike would drool over having this utterly rare item hanging in their home. This was the poster for Mickey Mouse's 52nd short film and ended up being one of United Artists' last cartoon posters.
One of these posters in very fine condition sold for $138,000 in 2006, and it seemed to resell again in 2009, but only for $107,550. Since then, it hasn't gone on the market.
While there are numerous Walt Disney's Comics and Stories comics, there are only a handful of these "Mad Doctor" posters, making them the most valuable Disney collectible on the planet.
