This Tequila Costs More Than a Mansion
Many people have memories of driking tequila (if they can remember them). But the good stuff ain't cheap.
The most expensive tequila in the world is worth a lot more than thousands of dollars. It's millions. Seriously. Don't spill a drop.
Let’s Look at the Numbers
The title of priciest tequila in the world goes to Tequila Ley Diamante, which sells for, wait for it, $3.5 million. For comparison, that same amount of money could buy:
- A New York luxury apartment
- A house in the hills of Hollywood
- A private island
- Multiple sports cars
- A personal chef for the rest of your life
Personally, we'd take any of the above over a bottle of tequila, but to each their own.
How It's Made
Tequila Ley .925 Diamante is made by the Hacienda la Capilla distillery in Mexico. The company claims it's the most valuable item produced by the country since colonial times.
It's made using premium blue agave from the Jalisco Highlands. The 42 percent alcohol/volume tequila is double distilled and aged in a barrel for seven years.
Only a few people can afford this drink on National Tequila Day (which is celebrated July 24), or any day, for that matter.
Why It's So Expensive
This tequila's mind-blowing price tag is no accident. The bottle, designed by Mexican artist Jose Davalos Mejia, is made using almost 5 pounds of platinum. See the glitter on the outside? Yeah, those are diamonds — 4,100 white diamonds, to be exact. Just making the bottle took 10 months.
Meanwhile, the tequila inside is made by master distillers. It has a complex aroma and flavor profile with a clarity and rounded flavor that makes a $6 bottle taste like actual mouthwash.
The Most Expensive Tequila Even Looks Expensive
Collecting empty bottles isn't trashy when they look like this.
It's art designed by Mexican artists, and the bottle alone is extremely valuable.
The Other Most Expensive Bottles of Tequila Are Still Crazy Pricey
Does this look like a "little night cap"? That's how the Instagram poster described this drink.
It's not how we'd describe a sip that costs hundred of thousands of dollars, but OK. Even the runners-up are reserved for millionaires. The top five after Tequila Ley .925 Diamente include:
- Ley .925 Ultra-Premium – $225,000
- Clase Azul 15th Anniversary Edition – $30,000
- Patrón En Lalique: Serie 2 Tequila – $7,500
- AsomBroso Reserva Del Porto Expensive Tequila – $2,800
- Barrique de Ponciano Porfidio Tequila – $2,000
Technically, you don't have to be a millionaire to buy them, but even if your income is in the six figures, you're probably not going to drop $30K on a beverage.
Is Expensive Tequila Worth It?
From a financial standpoint, probably not. Spending over $3 million on something that's technically poison when it could go to a good cause seems a little off. Generally speaking, however, if you drink tequila that's more expensive, it usually tastes better than the junk consumed by broke 22-year-olds.

Note: Alcohol is for adults, and so is some of the language in the following video below. If you're not old enough to drink, get outta here.
